This is a vintage Pendleton wool shirt that has been selected for its flaws - specifically, two small holes on the upper left sleeve and one hole next to the right front pocket. See photos three and four for details of the mends.
This shirt was salvaged from a second hand store, and has been repaired through visible mending in a way to both reinforce the fabric as well as add an interesting visual element to the clothing.
The mending style used to repair this garment is a woven darn, using repurposed cotton yarn.
Size: Men's Medium LONG/Women's Large (fits like a tunic)
Dimensions: Sleeve 26", Chest 22", Length 33"
Colors: Teal, Navy, and Red, Mended with Red Yarn
Given the tremendous volume of textile waste that is thrown away every year in the United States (over 10.5 MILLION tons!), visible mending provides a way to prolong the useful life of well-loved, high quality garments, reduce textile waste, and reduce consumption of new materials.
This second-hand, natural fiber garment has been mended and washed by hand, and is ready to have a new life.
In order to give your clothing the longest, best life, follow these care instructions:
-Wear more, wash less
-Wash by hand in cool water with a mild soap, such as Twig & Branch Wool Soap, or Dr. Bronners
-Squeeze water out, but DO NOT twist or wring
-Lay flat to dry
